The Wise
Phaåm Hieàn Trí
76. Should one a man of wisdom meet
who points out faults and gives reproof,
who lays a hidden treasure bare,
with such a sage should one consort.
Consorting so is one enriched
and never in decline.
76. Neáu thaáy baäc hieàn trí,
Chæ loãi vaø khieån traùch,
Nhö chæ choã choân vaøng,
Haõy thaân caän ngöôøi trí !
Thaân caän ngöôøi nhö vaäy,
Chæ toát hôn, khoâng xaáu.
77. Let him exhort, let him instruct,
and check one from abasement.
Dear indeed is he to the true,
not dear is he to the false.
77. Nhöõng ngöôøi hay khuyeân daïy,
Ngaên ngöôøi khaùc laøm aùc,
Ñöôïc ngöôøi hieàn kính yeâu,
Bò ngöôøi aùc khoâng thích.
78. Don't go around with evil friends,
with rogues do not resort.
Spend your time with noble friends,
and worthy ones consort.
78. Chôù thaân vôùi baïn aùc,
Chôù thaân keû tieåu nhaân.
Haõy thaân ngöôøi baïn laønh,
Haõy thaân baäc thöôïng nhaân.
79. Happy is he who Dhamma drinks
with heart that's clear and cool.
One so wise e'er delights
in Dhamma declared by the Noble.
79. Phaùp hyû ñem an laïc,
Vôùi taâm tö thuaàn tònh;
Ngöôøi trí thöôøng hoan hyû,
Vôùi phaùp baäc Thaùnh thuyeát.
80. Irrigators govern waters,
fletchers fashion shafts,
as joiners shape their timber
those who are wise tame themselves.
80. Ngöôøi trò thuûy daãn nöôùc,
Keû laøm teân naén teân,
Ngöôøi thôï moäc uoán goã,
Baäc trí nhieáp töï thaân.
81. Just as a mighty boulder
stirs not with the wind,
so the wise are never moved
either by praise or blame.
81. Nhö ñaù taûng kieân coá,
Khoâng gioù naøo lay ñoäng,
Cuõng vaäy, giöõa khen cheâ,
Ngöôøi trí khoâng giao ñoäng.
82. Even as a fathomless lake,
a lake so calm and clear,
so dhammas having heard
serene the wise become.
82. Nhö hoà nöôùc saâu thaúm,
Trong saùng, khoâng khuaáy ñuïc,
Cuõng vaäy, nghe chaùnh phaùp,
Ngöôøi trí höôûng tònh laïc.
83. Everything the good renounce,
the peaceful chatter not of fond delights,
and whether touched by pleasure or pain
nor joy or woe in the wise is seen.
83. Ngöôøi hieàn boû taát caû, [1]
Ngöôøi laønh khoâng baøn duïc,
Daàu caûm thoï laïc khoå,
Baäc trí khoâng vui buoàn.
84. Neither for one's own, nor for another's sake
one should wish for children, wealth and estate,
nor success desire by means unjust,
thus virtuous, and wise, righteous one would be.
84. Khoâng vì mình, vì ngöôøi.
Khoâng caàu ñöôïc con caùi,
Khoâng taøi saûn quoác ñoä,
Khoâng caàu mình thaønh töïu,
Vôùi vieäc laøm phi phaùp.
Vò aáy thaät trì giôùi,
Coù trí tueä, ñuùng phaùp.
85. Among folk they are few
who go to the Further Shore,
most among humanity
scurry on this hither shore.
85. Ít ngöôøi giöõa nhaân loaïi,
Ñeán ñöôïc bôø beân kia.
Coøn soá ngöôøi coøn laïi,
Xuoâi ngöôïc chaïy bôø naøy.
86. But they who practise Dhamma
according to Dhamma well-told,
from Death's Domain hard to leave
they'll cross to the Further Shore.
86. Nhöõng ai haønh trì phaùp,
Theo chaùnh phaùp kheùo daïy,
Seõ ñeán bôø beân kia,
Vöôït ma löïc khoù thoaùt.
87. Abandoning the Dhammas dark
the wise should cultivate the bright,
having from home to homeless gone
in solitude unsettling.
87. Keû trí boû phaùp ñen,
Tu taäp theo phaùp traéng.
Boû nhaø, soáng khoâng nhaø,
Soáng vieãn ly khoù laïc.
88. Let them desire that rare delight
renouncing pleasures, owing nought,
those wise ones should cleanse themselves
from all defilements of the mind.
88. Haõy caàu vui Nieát Baøn,
Boû duïc, khoâng sôû höõu,
Keû trí töï röûa saïch,
Caáu ueá töø noäi taâm.
89. Those who come to Wakening
with mind full-cultivated,
delight, no longer clinging,
in relinquishing attachment:
they, without pollution, radiant,
in this world have reached Nibbana.
89. Nhöõng ai vôùi chaùnh taâm,
Kheùo tu taäp giaùc chi,
Töø boû moïi aùi nhieãm,

Khoâng laäu hoaëc, saùng choùi,
