Impurities
Phaåm Caáu Ueá
235. Now a withered leaf you are
and now Death's men draw near,
now you stand at the parting gates
but waybread you have none.
235. Ngöôi nay gioáng laù heùo,
Dieâm söù ñang chôø ngöôi,
Ngöôi ñöùng tröôùc cöûa cheát,
Ñöôøng tröôøng thieáu tö löông.
236. Make an island of yourself,
quickly strive and wise become,
freed from stain and passionless
to go to the pure Abodes.
236. Haõy töï laøm hoøn ñaûo,
Tinh caàn gaáp, saùng suoát.
Tröø caáu ueá, thanh tònh,
Ñeán Thaùnh ñòa chö Thieân.
237. Even now the end draws near,
to the presence of death you've fared.
Along the path's no place for rest
and waybread you have none.
237. Ñôøi ngöôi nay saép taøn,
Tieán gaàn ñeán Dieâm Vöông.
Giöõa ñöôøng khoâng nôi nghæ,
Ñöôøng tröôøng thieáu tö löông.
238. Make an island of yourself,
quickly strive and wise become,
freed from stain and passionless
you'll not return, take flesh, decay.
238. Haõy töï laøm hoøn ñaûo,
Tinh caàn gaáp, saùng suoát.
Tröø caáu ueá, thanh tònh,
Chaúng trôû laïi sanh giaø.
239. Little by little, time after time,
successively then let the sage
blow away all blemishes
just as a smith with silver.
239. Baäc trí theo tuaàn töï.
Töøng saùt na tröø daàn
Nhö thôï vaøng loïc buïi
Tröø caáu ueá nôi mình.
240. As rust arisen out of iron
itself that iron eats away,
so kammas done beyond what's wise
lead to a state of woe.
240. Nhö seùt töø saét sinh,
Saét sanh laïi aên saét,
Cuõng vaäy, quaù lôïi döôõng
Töï nghieäp daãn coõi aùc.
241. For oral tradition, non-recitation,
in household life, non-exertion,
the fair of form when slovenly,
a sentry's sloth: all blemishes.
241. Khoâng tuïng laøm nhôùp kinh,
Khoâng ñöùng daäy, baån nhaø,
Bieáng nhaùc laøm nhô saéc,
Phoùng daät ueá ngöôøi canh.
242. In woman, conduct culpable,
with givers, avariciousness,
all blemishes these evil things
in this world or the next.
242. Taø haïnh nhô ñaøn baø,
Xan tham nhôùp keû thí,
AÙc phaùp laø veát nhô,
Ñôøi naøy vaø ñôøi sau.
243. More basic than these blemishes
is ignorance, the worst of all.
Abandoning this blemish then,
be free of blemish, monks!
243. Trong haøng caàu ueá aáy,
Voâ minh, nhô toái thöôïng,
Ñoaïn nhô aáy, tyû kheo,
Thaønh baäc khoâng ueá nhieãm.
244. Easy the life for a shameless one
who bold and forward as a crow,
is slanderer and braggart too:
this one's completely stained.
244. Deã thay, soáng khoâng hoå
Soáng loã maõng nhö quaï,
Soáng coâng kích huyeânh hoang,
Soáng lieàu lónh, nhieãm oâ.
245. But hard the life of a modest one
who always seeks for purity,
who's cheerful though no braggart,
clean-living and discerning.
245. Khoù thay, soáng xaáu hoå,
Thöôøng thöôøng caàu thanh tònh.
Soáng voâ tö, khieâm toán,
Trong saïch vaø saùng suoát.
246. In the world who life destroys,
who words of falsity speaks,
who takes what is not freely given
or to another's partner goes.
246. Ai ôû ñôøi saùt sinh,
Noùi laùo khoâng chaân thaät,
ÔÛ ñôøi laáy khoâng cho,
Qua laïi vôùi vôï ngöôøi.
247. Or has distilled, fermented drinks:
Who with abandon follows these
extirpates the root of self
even here in this very world.
247. Uoáng röôïu men, röôïu naáu,
Ngöôøi soáng ñam meâ vaäy,
Chính ngay taïi ñôøi naøy,
Töï ñaøo bôùi goác mình.
248. Therefore friend remember this;
Hard to restrain are evil acts,
don't let greed and wickedness
down drag you long in dukkha.
248. Vaäy ngöôøi, haõy neân bieát,
Khoâng cheá ngöï laø aùc,
Chôù ñeå tham phi phaùp,
Laøm ngöôøi ñau khoå daøi.
249. People give as they have faith,
as they are bright with joyfulness.
Who's troubled over gifts received,
the food and drink that others get,
neither in daytime nor by night
will come to a collected mind.
249. Do tín taâm, hyû taâm
Loaøi ngöôøi môùi boá thí.
ÔÛ ñaây ai baát maõn
Ngöôøi khaùc ñöôïc aên uoáng,
Ngöôøi aáy ngaøy hoaëc ñeâm,
Khoâng ñaït ñöôïc taâm tònh?
250. But who has severed envy's mind,
uprooted it, destroyed entire,
indeed in daytime and by night
will come to a collected mind.
250. Ai caét ñöôïc, phaù ñöôïc,
Taän goác nhoå taâm aáy.
Ngöôøi aáy ngaøy hoaëc ñeâm,
Taát ñeán ñöôïc taâm ñònh.
251. There is no fire like lust,
nought seizes like aversion,
unequalled is delusion's net,
no river's like to craving.
251. Löûa naøo baèng löûa tham!
Chaáp naøo baèng saân haän!
Löôùi naøo baèng löôùi si!
Soâng naøo baèng soâng aùi!
252. Other's faults are easy to see
yet hard it is to see one's own,
and so one winnows just like chaff
the faults of other people, while
hiding away those of one's own
as crafty cheat the losing throw.
252. Deã thay thaáy loãi ngöôøi,
Loãi mình thaáy môùi khoù.
Loãi ngöôøi ta phanh tìm,
Nhö saøng traáu trong gaïo.
Coøn loãi mình, che ñaäy,
Nhö keû gian daáu baøi.
253. Who's always seeing other's faults,
taking offence, censorious,
pollutions spread for such a one
who's far from their exhaustion.
253. Ai thaáy loãi cuûa ngöôøi,
Thöôøng sanh loøng chæ trích,
Ngöôøi aáy laäu hoaëc taêng,
Raát xa laäu hoaëc dieät.
254. In skies above there is no path,
no peaceful one's without,
in manifoldness do folk delight,
Tathagatas are manifold-free.
254. Hö khoâng, khoâng daáu chaân,
Ngoaøi ñaây, khoâng sa moân,
Chuùng sanh thích hyù luaän,
Nhö Lai, hyù luaän tröø.
255. In skies above there is no path,
no peaceful one's without,
nothing conditioned ever lasts,
no Buddha's ever shaken.
255. Hö khoâng, khoâng daáu chaân,
Ngoaøi ñaây, khoâng sa moân.
Caùc haønh khoâng thöôøng truù,
Chö Phaät khoâng dao ñoäng.
