Craving
Phaåm Tham aùi
334. As creeping ivy craving grows
in one living carelessly.
Like this, one leaps from life to life
as ape in the forest seeking fruit.
334. Ngöôøi soáng ñôøi phoùng daät,
AÙi taêng nhö daây leo.
Nhaûy ñôøi naøy ñôøi khaùc,
Nhö vöôïn tham quaû röøng.
335. Whomsoever in this world
this wretched clinging craving routs
for such a one do sorrows grow
as grass well-soaked with rain.
335. Ai soáng trong ñôøi naøy,
Bò aùi duïc buoäc raøng
Saàu khoå seõ taêng tröôûng,
Nhö coû Bi gaëp möa.
336. But whoever in this world
routs wretched craving hard to quell,
from such a one do sorrows fall
like water drops from lotus leaf.
336. Ai soáng trong ñôøi naøy
AÙi duïc ñöôïc haøng phuïc
Saàu rôi khoûi ngöôøi aáy
Nhö gioït nöôùc laù sen.
337. Prosperity to you, I say,
to all assembled here!
When needing grass's fragrant root
so craving extirpate.
Don't let Mara break you again,
again as a torrent a reed!
337. Ñaây ñieàu laønh Ta daïy,
Caùc ngöôøi tuï hoïp ñaây,
Haõy nhoå taän goác aùi
Nhö nhoå goác coû Bi.
Chôù ñeå ma phaù hoaïi,
Nhö gioøng nöôùc coû lau.
338. As tree though felled shoots up again
it its roots are safe and firm
so this dukkha grows again
while latent craving's unremoved.
338. Nhö caây bò chaët ñoán,
Goác chöa haïi vaãn beàn
AÙi tuøy mieân chöa nhoå,
Khoå naøy vaãn sanh hoaøi.
339. For whom the six and thirty streams
so forceful flow to seemings sweet
floods of thought that spring from lust
sweep off such wrong viewholder.
339. Ba möôi saùu doøng aùi [1],
Troâi ngöôøi ñeán khaû aùi.
Caùc tö töôûng tham aùi.
Cuoán troâi ngöôøi taø kieán.
340. Everywhere these streams are swirling,
up-bursting creepers rooted firm.
Seeing the craving-creeper there
with wisdom cut its root!
340. Doøng aùi duïc chaûy khaép,
Nhö giaây leo moïc traøn,
Thaáy giaây leo vöøa sanh,
Vôùi tueä, haõy ñoaïn goác.
341. To beings there are pleasures streaming
sticky with desire,
steeped in comfort, happiness seeking,
such ones do come to birth, decay.
341. Ngöôøi ñôøi nhôù aùi duïc,
Öa thích caùc hyû laïc.
Tuy mong caàu an laïc,
Chuùng vaãn phaûi sanh giaø.
342. Who follow craving are assailed,
they tremble as the hare ensnared,
held fast by fetter and by bonds
so long they come to dukkha again.
342. Ngöôøi bò aùi buoäc raøng,
Vuøng vaãy vaø hoaûng sôï,
Nhö thoû bò sa löôùi.
Chuùng sanh aùi troùi buoäc,
Chòu khoå ñau daøi daøi.
343. Who follow craving are assailed,
they tremble as the hare ensnared,
so let a bhikkhu craving quell
whose aim is passionlessness.
343. Ngöôøi bò aùi buoäc raøng,
Vuøng vaãy vaø hoaûng sôï,
Nhö thoû bò sa löôùi.
Do vaäy vò tyû kheo,
Mong caàu mình ly tham
Neân nhieáp phuïc aùi duïc.
344. Who without woodness inclines to the wood.
free in the wood to woodness returns.
Do now regard that person well
who free returns to fetter.
344. Lìa röøng laïi höôùng röøng [2]
Thoaùt röøng chaïy theo röøng.
Neân xem ngöôøi nhö vaäy,
Ñöôïc thoaùt khoûi buoäc raøng.
Laïi chaïy theo raøng buoäc.
345. Neither of iron nor wood nor hemp
is bond so strong, proclaim the wise,
as passion's yearn for sons, for wives,
for gems and ornaments.
345. Saét, caây, gai troùi buoäc
Ngöôøi trí xem chöa beàn.
Tham chaâu baùu, trang söùc
Tham voïng vôï vaø con.
346. That bond is strong, proclaim the wise,
down-dragging, pliable, hard to loose.
This passion severed, they wander forth
forsaking sensual pleasures.
346. Ngöôøi coù trí noùi raèng:
Troùi buoäc naøy thaät beàn.
Trì keùo xuoáng, luùn xuoáng,
Nhöng thaät söï khoù thoaùt.
Ngöôøi trí caét tröø noù,
Boû duïc laïc, khoâng maøng.
347. Ensnared in passion back they fall
as spider on a self-spun web.
This passion severed, wander the wise
forsaking dukkha all.
347. Ngöôøi ñaém say aùi duïc
Töï lao mình xuoáng doøng
Nhö nheän sa löôùi deät.
Ngöôøi trí caét tröø noù,
Boû moïi khoå, khoâng maøng.
348. Let go before, let go the after,
let go the middle, beyond the becoming.
With mind released in every way
you'll come no more to birth, decay.
348. Boû quaù, hieän, vò lai,
Ñeán bôø kia cuoäc ñôøi,
Y Ù giaûi thoaùt taát caû,
Chôù vöôùng taïi sanh giaø.
349. For one who's crushed by thinking much
excessive lust from beauty's sight,
for that one craving grows the more,
that one makes strong the bonds.
349. Ngöôøi taø yù nhieáp phuïc,
Tham saéc beùn nhìn tònh,
Ngöôøi aáy aùi taêng tröôûng,
Laøm giaây troùi mình chaët.
350. But who delights in subduing evil thoughts,
meditates on the impurities with mindfulness,
that one indeed will make an End,
and will sever Mara's bonds.
350. Ai vui, an tònh yù,
Quaùn baát tònh, thöôøng nieäm,
Ngöôøi aáy seõ dieät aùi,
Caét ñöùt Ma troùi buoäc.
351. One who's fearless, reached the End,
of craving and of blemish free,
who has becoming's thorn plucked out,
has this, a final body.
351. Ai tôùi ñích khoâng sôï,
Ly aùi, khoâng nhieãm oâ
Nhoå muõi teân sanh töû,
Thaân naøy thaân cuoái cuøng.
352. One of clinging-craving free,
who's skilled in way of chanting,
knowing the wording-sequence,
of what precedes and follows,
possessed of final body,
one greatly wise, "Great Person"'s called.
352. AÙi lìa, khoâng chaáp thuû.
Cuù phaùp kheùo bieän taøi
Thaáu suoát töø voâ ngaïi,
Hieåu thöù lôùp tröôùc sau.
Thaân naøy thaân cuoái cuøng
Vò nhö vaäy ñöôïc goïi,
Baäc Ñaïi trí, ñaïi nhaân.
353. Beyond all beings, wise to all,
unsoiled by dhammas all am I,
left all and freed by craving's end,
by self I've known, whom teacher call?
353. Ta haøng phuïc taát caû,
Ta roõ bieát taát caû,
Khoâng bò nhieãm phaùp naøo.
Ta töø boû taát caû
AÙi dieät, töï giaûi thoaùt.
Ñaõ töï mình thaéng trí,
Ta goïi ai thaày ta?
354. Gift of Dhamma surpasses all gifts,
the Dhamma, its taste all other tastes beats,
delight in the Dhamma bests other delights,
destruction of craving conquers all ill.
354. Phaùp thí, thaéng moïi thí!
Phaùp vò, thaéng moïi vò!
Phaùp hyû, thaéng moïi hyû!
AÙi dieät, thaéng moïi khoå!
355. Riches ruin a foolish one
but not one seeking the Further Shore,
craving for wealth a foolish one
is ruined as if ruining others.
355. Taøi saûn haïi ngöôøi ngu.
Khoâng ngöôøi tìm bôø kia
Keû ngu vì tham giaøu,
Haïi mình vaø haïi ngöôøi.
356. Weeds are a fault of fields,
lust's a human fault,
thus offerings to the lustless
bear abundant fruit.
356. Coû laøm haïi ruoäng vöôøn,
Tham laøm haïi ngöôøi ñôøi.
Boá thí ngöôøi ly tham,
Do vaäy ñöôïc quaû lôùn.
357. Weeds are a fault of fields,
hate's a human fault,
hence offerings to the hateless
bear abundant fruit.
357. Coû laøm haïi ruoäng vöôøn,
Saân laøm haïi ngöôøi ñôøi.
Boá thí ngöôøi ly saân,
Do vaäy ñöôïc quaû lôùn.
358. Weed are the fault of fields,
delusion, human's faults,
so gifts to the undeluded
bear abundant fruit.
358. Coû laøm haïi ruoäng vöôøn,
Si laøm haïi ngöôøi ñôøi,
Boá thí ngöôøi ly si,
Do vaäy ñöôïc quaû lôùn.
359. Weed are the fault of fields,
desire, human's faults,
so gifts to the desireless
bear abundant fruit.
359. Coû laøm haïi ruoäng vöôøn,
Duïc laøm haïi ngöôøi ñôøi.
Boá thí ngöôøi ly duïc,
Do vaäy ñöôïc quaû lôùn.
