Yassa jita.m naavajiiyati jitamassa no yaati koci loke
Ta.m buddhamanantagocara.m apada.m kena padena nessatha. -- 179
Whose conquest (of passion) is not turned into defeat,
no conquered (passion) of his in this world follows him -
that trackless Buddha of infinite range,
by which way will you lead him? -- 179
179. Saïch duïc laïc tham aùi,
Baët khaùt voïng treân ñôøi,
Trí löïc Phaät voâ löôïng.
Caùm doã sao ñöôïc ö?
Yassa jaalinii visattikaa ta.nhaa natthi kuhi~nci netave
Ta.m buddhamanantagocara.m apada.m kena padena nessatha. -- 180
Him in whom there is not that entangling,
embroiling craving to lead (to any life),
him the trackless Buddha of infinite range,
- by which way will you lead him? -- 180

Baët aùi duïc treân ñôøi,
Trí löïc Phaät voâ löôïng,
Caùm doã sao ñöôïc ö?
Ye jhaanapasutaa dhiiraa nekkhammuupasame rataa
Devaa-pi tesa.m pihayanti sambuddhaana.m satiimata.m. -- 181
The wise ones who are intent on meditation,
who delight in the peace of renunciation (i.e., Nibbaana),
such mindful perfect Buddhas
even the gods hold (most) dear. -- 181

Thích an tònh vieãn ly,
Baäc chaùnh giaùc, chaùnh nieäm,
Chö thieân cuõng kính qui.

Kiccha.m saddhammasavana.m kiccho buddhaana.m uppaado. -- 182
Rare is birth as a human being.
Hard is the life of mortals.
Hard is the hearing of the Sublime Truth.
Rare is the appearance of the Buddhas. -- 182

Khoù thay nghe dieäu phaùp!
Khoù thay Phaät ra ñôøi!

Not to do any evil,
to cultivate good,
to purify one's mind,
this is the Teaching of the Buddhas. -- 183
183. Ñöøng laøm caùc ñieàu aùc,
Tu taäp moïi haïnh laønh
Giöõ taâm yù trong saïch.
Ñoù laø lôøi Phaät daïy.
Khantii parama.m tapo titikkhaa
Nibbaa.na.m parama.m vadanti buddhaa
Na hi pabbajito paruupaghaatii
Sama.no hoti para.m vihe.thayanto. -- 184
Forbearing patience is the highest austerity.
Nibbaana is supreme, say the Buddhas.
He, verily, is not a recluse who harms another.
Nor is he an ascetic who oppresses others. -- 184

Nhaãn nhuïc haïnh toái cao,
Nieát baøn quaû toái thöôïng,
Xuaát gia nhieãu haïi ngöôøi,
Ñaâu coøn sa moân töôùng!
Anuupavaado anuupaghaato paatimokkhe ca sa.mvaro
Matta~n~nutaa ca bhattasmi.m panta~nca sayanaasana.m
Adhicitte ca aayogo eta.m buddhaana saasana.m. -- 185
Not insulting, not harming,
restraint according to the Fundamental Moral Code (Paatimokkha),
moderation in food, secluded abode,
intent on higher thoughts,
- this is the Teaching of the Buddhas. -- 185

Giôùi caên baûn nghieâm trì.
AÊn uoáng coù tieát ñoä.
An truï nôi vieãn ly.
Chuyeân tu taäp thieàn ñònh.

Appassaadaa dukhaa kaamaa iti vi~n~naaya pa.n.dito. -- 186
Not by a shower of gold coins
does contentment arise in sensual pleasures.
Of little sweetness, and painful, 
are sensual pleasures. -- 186

Duïc laïc vaãn chöa vöøa,
Caøng khoaùi laïc say söa,
AÉt khoå nhieàu, vui ít.
Api dibbesu kaamesu rati.m so naadhigacchati
Ta.nhakkhayarato hoti sammaasambuddhasaavako. -- 187
Knowing thus, the wise man finds no delight
even in heavenly pleasures.
The disciple of the Fully Enlightened One
delights in the destruction of craving. -- 187

Chaúng thích laïc chö thieân.
Ñeä töû baäc Chaùnh giaùc,
Quyeát dieät tham aùi lieàn.
Bahu.m ve sara.na.m yanti pabbataani vanaani ca
Aaraamarukkhacetyaani manussaa bhayatajjitaa. -- 188
To many a refuge fear-stricken men 
betake themselves
- to hills, woods, groves, 
trees, and shrines. -- 188
188. Laém ngöôøi sôï hoaûng hoát,
Tìm nhieàu choã nöông vaøo,
Hoaëc röøng thaúm nuùi cao,
Hoaëc vöôøn caây ñeàn thaùp.
N-eta.m kho sara.na.m khema.m n-eta.m sara.namuttama.m
N-eta.m sara.namaagamma sabbadukkhaa pamuccati. -- 189
Nay no such refuge is safe, 
no such refuge is supreme.
Not by resorting to such a refuge
is one freed from all ill. -- 189
189. Nöông töïa vaäy chöa yeân,
Chöa toái thöôïng phöôùc ñieàn,
Ngöôøi nöông töïa nhö vaäy,
Thoaùt sao heát öu phieàn!

Cattaari ariyasaccaani sammappa~n~naaya passati. -- 190
He who has gone
for to the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha,
sees with right knowledge

Boán thaùnh ñeá thöôøng haèng.

- Sorrow, the Cause of Sorrow,

Boán laø ñöôøng taùm nhaùnh,
Taän dieät khoå, khoå nhaân.

Eta.m sara.namaagamma sabbadukkhaa pamuccati. -- 192
This, indeed, is refuge secure.
This, indeed, is refuge supreme.
By seeking such refuge
one is released from all sorrow. -- 192

Laø toái thöôïng phöôùc ñieàn,
Ngöôøi nöông töïa nhö vaäy,
Giaûi thoaùt heát öu phieàn.
Dullabho purisaaja~n~no na so sabbattha jaayati
Yattha so jaayati dhiiro ta.m kula.m sukhamedhati. -- 193
Hard to find is a man of great wisdom:
such a man is not born everywhere.
Where such a wise man is born,
that family thrives happily. -- 193
193. Thaùnh nhaân raát khoù gaëp,
Vì khoâng hieän khaép nôi,
Baäc trí sanh ôû ñaâu,
Gia toäc ñoù an laïc.
Sukho buddhaana.m uppaado sukhaa saddhammadesanaa
Sukhaa sa'nghassa saamaggi samaggaana.m tapo sukho. -- 194
Happy is the birth of Buddhas.
Happy is the teaching of the sublime Dhamma.
Happy is the unity of the Sangha.
Happy is the discipline of the united ones. -- 194

Vui thay Phaùp thuyeát minh!
Vui thay Taêng hoøa hôïp!
Vui thay Giôùi tu haønh!
Puujaarahe puujayato buddhe yadi va saavake

He who reverences those worthy of reverence,
whether Buddhas or their disciples;
those who have overcome the impediments
and have got rid of grief and lamentation, -- 195

Chö Phaät hay moân ñoà,
Caùc baäc saïnh chöôùng ngaïi,
Ñoaïn öu khoå teá thoâ.
Te taadise puujayato nibbute akutobhaye
Na sakkaa pu~n~na.m sa'nkhaatu.m imettamapi kenaci. -- 196
- the merit of him who reverences 
such peaceful and fearless Ones
cannot be measured by anyone 
as such and such. -- 196
196. Coâng ñöùc ngöôøi kính leã,
Baäc voâ uùy, tòch tònh,
Thaät voâ löôïng voâ bieân,
Khoâng theå naøo löôøng ñònh.
